A project goal is a development of a technology that allows a production of an EOE for cans from thinner sheet.

A company Silgan, Ljubljana, has a mass production for metal packaging, including caps (Easy-Open-Ends, EOE) for beverage cans, which are used in the food industry. In order to save the cost of material they wanted to produce the EOE of thinner sheet metal. The problem is that from that sheet a relatively deep rivet must be drawn in order to fix an opening key. If sheet is to thin, it fractures during rivet drawing. Therefore, we designed technology with which it is possible to produce the rivet (and thus the EOE) from thin sheet metal.
