Joško Valentinčič

Short Curriculum Vitae

Joško Valentinčič was born on 19^th of March 1971 in Šempeter pri Gorici, Slovenia. He was visiting the secondary technical school in Nova Gorica, Slovenia and in the year 1990 he began to study at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University in Ljubljana. In his graduate diploma he developed the adaptive controller of the electrical discharge machining (EDM) process by using inductive machine learning.

The same year he was employed at the Faculty of mechanical engineering as Assistant-practitioner and he began his postgraduate study. During the postgraduate study he was teaching practical work for graduate students. He spend on month at the University Joseph Fourier in Grenoble, France to work on the common research project. In year 2000 he received Master's degree on the field of mechanical engineering. In his Master's degree he upgraded the EDM fuzzy controller and build a system for product design adaptation to tool manufacturing by EDM process. During his Ph.D. study, he developed a model for on-line selection of EDM rough machining parameters. He successfully defended his Ph.D. in November 2003.

During the postgraduate study, he was actively involved in several European, national and industrial projects. After receiving the Ph.D. degree, his work is mainly focused on project tasks. To mention just some of them:

• In the year 2005 he was involved in research activities on micro-EDM, which was held in the frame of Multi-material micro manufacture Network of Excellence. The intense research was held at Cardiff University for a few weeks and it was continued in the year 2006 at Technical University of Denmark.
• In the year 2006 he is a part of research team sponsored by B/S/H Hišni aparati d.o.o. The task is to develop new device for food cutting.
• During the last three years he is intensively involved with the research group from Jožef Stefan Institute that is innovating and developing an electric motor used as direct drive of transport and other systems.
• He is a co-founder of the Innovation Centre, association for Innovation, Research, Science, Ecology and Culture.

Based on his research and educational results, as well as inauguration lecture titled Microtechnologies, he received the title Assistant Professor in the year 2008.

2000
Master's thesis in Mechanical engineering: "Adaptation of the product to electrical discharge machining in toolmaking".

2003
Doctor's thesis in Mechanical engineering: "A model of the EDM process parameter selection upon the size of eroding surface"
