The Center for Experimental Mechanics (CEM), headed by Professor Igor Emri, is a self-supporting entity, operating under the aegis of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana. It carries out contract research for industrial and governmental organizations.

CEM hosts the European Office of the Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM), Bethel, USA, and SEM's Center for Mechanics of Time Dependent Materials.

This Center organizes biannual international conferences on the Mechanics of Time Dependent Materials, and is the European Editorial Office for the journal "Mechanics of Time Dependent Materials", produced by Kluwer Academic  Publishers.

The Center annually organizes a workshop on Advances in Experimental Mechanics in cooperation with the Laboratory for Experimental Mechanics, Aoyama Gakuin University, Japan (Professor M. Takashi), and Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, USA (Professor A. Voloshin).

CEM has an agreement of collaboration with The International Academy of Engineering, Moscow, formerly the USSR Academy of Engineering and Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Moscow. The goal of this collaboration is to foster technology and knowledge transfer between Western and former Eastern Countries.
